    Digital twin is defined as a digital representation of any physical object, process or service. A digital twin can be a digital replica of an object in the physical world, such as a jet engine or wind farms, or even larger items such as buildings or even whole cities and with enough computing power whole nations' Infrastructure grid. Digital twin is, in essence, a computer program that uses real world data to create simulations that can predict how a product or process will perform. These programs can integrate the IoT & Industry 4.0/5.0, artificial intelligence and advance software analytics into single complex yet organised data environment to enhance the output and performance of the said physical object.

       At Elementalz Inc. India a digital twin begins its life being built by specialists, often experts in data science or applied mathematics along with AEC professionals. These developers research the physics that underlie the physical object or system being mimicked and use that data to develop a mathematical model that simulates the real-world original in digital space. In most basic understandable terms Digital Twin model is composed of the following three elements:

  • a physical entity like Building(To be built or Existing) in real space which is to be mimicked in digital world

  • the digital twin of the physical entity in software form(With or without visualization); and

  • data that links the first two elements together like IoT technology.

           Digital twins can broadly be classified on two principle: 1) Development of model on timeline oft the project and 2) Stage of process for which the model was developed.The data link that connects the digital twin and real entity (often but not necessarily two-way) is what differentiates digital twins from similar concepts. The twin is constructed so that it can receive input from sensors gathering data from a real-world counterpart. This allows the twin to simulate the physical object in real time, in the process offering insights into performance and potential problems. The twin could also be designed based on a prototype of its physical counterpart, in which case the twin can provide feedback as the product is refined; a twin could even serve as a prototype itself before any physical version is built.
